Colorado Bend (Texas) Canoe & Cliffs Trip!

As Joker says to Batman in The Dark Knight, “What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object”? In this case the Colorado River meets a limestone massif. And what results is the river makes a large bend, giving the town of Bend, Texas, its name and in the process gouging out impressive cliffs, including Texas’s tallest continuously flowing waterfall. We are proud to present a weekend of canoeing, camping, and hiking on Columbus Day weekend (October 10 - 12). Our itinerary includes a five mile canoe trip down the Colorado River, a hike to Gorman Falls, swimming and hiking a springfed stream so clear you can see fish swimming six feet deep, and camping by impressive limestone cliffs. Our itinerary is as follows:

10 October (Saturday): Meet in downtown Hico, TX at Siloville Rock Climbing Silos between 10 and 12. We will climb the silos while waiting for everyone to arrive. Then we’ll continue on to Barefoot Camp. Arrive at campsite 10, get settled, explore surroundings. Hike Spicewood Canyon with the crystal clear Spicewood Creek (3 miles).

11 October (Sunday): Canoe the Colorado from Bend to the campsite.

12 October (Monday): Hike Gorman Falls, the tallest continuous waterfall in Texas; head home
